LECTURES

Lecture 1 : Introduction to Module

26.08.19 (Week 1)

We are briefed on what to expect and learn from this module on experimental design and introduced on what is experimental design.

Lecture 2 : -

02.09.19 (Week 2)

We had no lecture this week as it was a public holiday.

Lecture 3 : Unity

13.09.19 (Week 3)

We learned how to use unity to create 3-dimensional objects using software called Unity. We also learned to code some basic game elements.

Lecture 4 : -

16.09.19 (Week 4)

We had no lecture this week as it was a public holiday.

Lecture 5 : Unity AR

30.09.19 (Week 6)

We had a lecture on how to create AR using image and video in Unity. Our exercise is to scan the image to the camera and a video will be shown.

Fig 1.1 Process in Unity
Firstly, we need to activate our AR camera by activating the Vuforia Augmented Reality Support.

Then, we have to add a video in our assets.

Lecture 7: -

07.10.19 (Week 7)

We had no lecture this week.

Lecture 8: Game Buttons

15.10.19 (Week 8)

This week, we learned how to create game buttons on a game home page in Unity. We also animated the buttons and create a AR page.

11.11.19 (Week 12)

Animating AR Asset

Lecture 13 : -

18.11.19 (Week 13)

We had no lecture this week as we had consultation.

Lecture 14 : -

No lecture this week as we had to complete our final project.

INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1 - PROPOSAL

30.09.19 (Week 6)

We were firstly tasked to think of the idea for AR Project in this module. I had come up with 3 rough ideas :

Fig 1.1 3 AR app ideas

07.10.19 (Week 7)

After consulting my initial ideas, Mr. Razif told me to focus on my 1st and 3rd ideas. However, he recommended me to do the third one and I'm also more interested in that idea. So I decided to go ahead with one final idea which is the educational AR learning app. I made a proposal in googledocs to explain about my idea even further.

I decided to go with the 3rd idea which is the Education Interactive Learning AR App

14.10.19 (Week 8) - 21.10.19 (Week 9)

Mr Razif asked us to complete our proposal. After seeing mine, he said that I need to add visualisation. I did it in Adobe Illustrator, here's what I have done :

28.10.19 (Week 10) - 04.11.19 (Week 11)

These weeks I worked on putting the screens in Unity and also the creating the logo for my main screen app.

In addition, I put the screens for my mini quiz after the scene where the user has interact with the AR object plant.

11.11.19 (Week 12) - 06.12.19 (Week 14)

I showed my progress to Mr Razif and asked him for some tutorial for the game with the plants. After seeing my progress, he told me to make 5 questions in total so that during the result, it would look nicer. He also suggested me to animate my screens in panels instead of making lots of different scenes. He also showed me some coding which I could use.

Mr Razif gave us some additional tutorials for all of us. For my project, I follow the tutorial for animating panels (unity screens) and control animations using buttons.

Fig 1.14 Quiz Scene
In addition, I requested for a tutorial where for the quiz, it can generate how many out of 5 questions do the player gets correct. Here is the tutorial that Mr Razif gave :

Fig 1.16 Quiz Tutorial

Fig 1.17 Control Animation using Buttons

After getting done with the quiz, I moved on with the AR Camera scene where the user is required to scan the image and the flower will pop out and they are required to interact with it by tapping the objects to help the flower do photosynthesis. However, if they tap the wrong object, there will be a heart counter and they will lose one life when they click 1 wrong object. However, I haven't found the suitable tutorial for that so it might not be applied.

Fig 1.18 Testing

I showed Mr Razif with my progression and what I have so far and asked him for feedback on each scene.

Feedback : The animation for the pop up panel (wrong/correct) is quite slow so it would be better if you can make it faster. Make the size of the plant and objects smaller and also put a grey background on the text so it becomes more readable.

Based on Mr Razif's feedback, I made some changes with the pop up panel to make it faster. Then, I continued coding and animating the plant's happy and sad emotions.

Fig 1.19 Home Screen
Fig 1.20 Scan Image Scene

At first the animation isn't that good because theres a bit of transition between the idle animation and sad animation so I had to fix it.

Fig 1.21 Fixing Transitions

Fig 1.22 Testing the animation and button

Feedback : Mr Razif said that the animation is okay and much better than before.

Fig 1.23 Animating the Plant

I decided to add another scene to explain what do plants produce after photosynthesis as it will also benefit the users to answer the mini quiz which involves this kind of question. The next scene involves AR Camera and scanning too but by tapping on the buttons, it will show what the plant produces (e.g : Plants produce Oxygen and Glucose).

FEEDBACK

Week 7

Mr Razif said that my 3 ideas are all okay. First one is good as its more focusing on people who are vegan or have allergies, the nutritional information is also good but I need to rearrange which one is the most important/what people are mostly looking for. However, if I'm going with that idea, I need to add more on what the app could do. The second one is okay but require lots of animation and also I need to add more on it. Lastl, for the third one, it's interesting and I could add mini games to make it more fun.

Week 8

Mr Razif told me to either find a book or create my own layout of a chapter of photosynthesis.

Week 9

There was no feedback given this week.

Week 10

Mr Razif said that I can use either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Animate to animate the plant and he also told me to slow down the animation because right now its too fast.

Week 11

No feedback was given this week as Mr Razif helped me set up my unity to connect to my phone device.

Week 12

No feedback was given this week.

Week 13

Mr Razif told me to make another 2 more questions so that it would look nicer in the result which shows (? / 5). Then, he suggested me to animate my panels and buttons instead of making lots of scenes and connecting them using buttons.

Week 14

No feedback was given this week.

Week 15

Make the pop up animation faster as it's too slow right now. Animation of the plants are okay.

Feedback : The animation for the pop up panel (wrong/correct) is quite slow so it would be better if you can make it faster. Make the size of the plant and objects smaller and also put a grey background on the text so it becomes more readable.
